    Dear List,
    this workshop is highly recommended for those who wish to seriously advance their homeopathic capability in handling serious cases like Pancreatitis, Tuberculosis, AIDS, renal failure, glomerolunepthritis, and even cardiac emmergencies, etc, as well other cases like Autism, Learning disorders, etc.

    The principles of management essentially remain the same, but the approach differs based on the pace of disease and changing symptom picture.

    It is based on strong philosophical foundation of HOLISTIC-PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL
    APPROACH: SYMPHONY. This is an innovative approach based on integration of holistic concept propounded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, founder of Homoeopathy & JEAN PIAGET’S concept of CHILD DEVELOPMENT.

    1. Case Receiving:
    Student will get an opportunity to have direct interactions with the patient.

    Homeopathic case taking demands emotional, educational & spiritual preparation of the interviewer. Finer analysis of case taking brings out conceptual base of patient as well as physician on which they are talking. As Hahnemann rightly mentions in aphorism 6 – Unprejudiced observer can alone perceive the right totality. Systematic handling of the interview can facilitate physician’s journey towards discovery of his own prejudices.

    Understanding of inadequacies of case taking will highlight physician’s strength & weaknesses of his specific & general knowledge.

    Clinical exposure to Acute & chronic case follow ups. Candidate will have ample opportunity to see various acute cases like infective illness, respiratory, gastrointestinal etc. There will be interactive session to learn approach to acute disease.

    2. Clinical module will focus on importance of clinical diagnosis & homeopathic prescribing.
    How to evolve clinical reasoning through:
    · Comprehensive evolutionary study of complaints
    · Physical examination
    · Investigations- Pathological, Radiological, of scan, MRI etc.

    3. Perceiving totality through various approaches:
    a) Qualified symptoms-PQRS, key note prescribing
    b) Perceiving characteristic state of disposition aphorism 211.How to translate it in the language of Materia Medica & repertory
    c) Revising & reflecting Master’s teachings- Kent, Bonneinghaussen, Boger, Clarke, Phatak etc.

    4.Perceiving mind-
    a) Breaking myths & misconceptions to perceive the essential mind.
    b) Abstractions v/s hard factual characteristics, their differential evaluation & implications to perceive the qualified aspect of the mind.
    c) Utilizing scientific tools to perceive the depth of mind- systematic study of concept of Psychodynamic, psychosomatics etc.
    d) Dreams- the mirror of the mind. Scientific interpretation of the dreams.

    Objectives would be to perceive holistic integrated understanding of the mind.

    5. The Chronic Miasms- Concept & applications

    Homeopathic education needs to achieve an integration of the Hahnemannian principles with the modern medical knowledges. There will be sound clinico-immuno pathological correlations with the theory of chronic miasms.
    Illustrative cases will demonstrate applications of concepts in practice.

    6. Materia Medica
    Differential World of Materia Medica:
    Kent has rightly mentioned that there is no royal road to the study of materia medica. Effective materia medica helpful at bedside can evolve by skillful and artistic use of the repertory and finally to critically analyzed clinical experiences.

    The great master, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the scientist & the artist, directed homoeopathic physician to pay attention to deviations from the former healthy state of the now diseased individual & recognize the ‘true and only conceivable portrait of the disease (Aph.6); Artist sensitively receives impressions of the subject and projects this experience on the canvas. Portrait, thus becomes task demanding sensitivity, authenticity and integrity of the artist along with mastery over skills and methods and techniques he employs to give expression to his perceptions. In contrast to an artist, portrait drawn by a Homoeopathic physician is quite dynamic. It needs to incorporate on going clinical experiences of patients which may demand continuous modifications. In order to ensure fineness and depth of portrait it is important that it has multiple facets and evolutionary perspective. This is possible provided physician has sound conceptual base to analyze & synthesize clinical experiences integrating psychosomatic, clinic pathological aspects.

    What is available to the physician is the behavior and narration of the individual. Physician has to go beyond these gestures and words in order to unearth the underlying state of feelings and thoughts. Then only he can make deep inroad towards the core of the person. This facilitates his travel towards perceiving the characteristic state of disposition as mentioned in aphorism 211.
    Comprehensive study of life experiences of the individual, psychodynamic analysis of these experiences and available qualified features permit us to perceive this state. Every trait has sensory as well as motor components. A particular trait evolves with other co-ordinates. All together, build up the state. When we study this from the perspective of repertory, materia medica and clinical dimension, we can build up the portrait.

    To understand this approach we have taken up REJECTION (forsaken feeling) as one of the themes.

    We will discuss in details through ILLUSTRATIVE CASE MATERIALS< differential diagnosis of various remedies with the central theme of REJECTION
    Following drugs will be taken up:

    During workshop, through various clinical cases there will be discussion of differential world of Materia Medica. Attempt will be made to evolve the portrait with finer shades.
    Similarly themes like ‘conscience’, ‘Ego’ will also be touched upon.

    7.Susceptibility & Posology:
    We need to utilize our integrated understanding of disease phenomena, active Miasms & totality to judge precisely the state of susceptibility. Spandan has evolved multidimensional model to judge the state of susceptibility based on appreciation of reactivity, immunity/ morbidity, sensitivity & vitality.
    Each case will be studied to grasp all aspects of susceptibility

    There is lot of confusion about posology in Homoeopathic profession. Quite often we see contradictory diverse views. After painstaking efforts, Homoeopathic physician finds out the correct drug for the patient. If his selection of the potency and repetition and subsequent appreciation of remedy response are not proper, he fails to manage the case.

    Dr. Barvalia has evolved an integrated scientific model to judge accurately the state of susceptibility. Following are its vital components
    1. Immunity
    2. Reactivity
    3. Vitality and
    4. Sensitivity
    They are evaluated in the backdrop of miasms, suppressions and living.
    This ANALYTICAL – SYNTHETIC APPROACH helps us to perceive susceptibility, scientifically evaluate responses and thus management of difficult complex cases.

    All these concepts will be discussed through illustrative case materials of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Hyperthyroidism, Acid peptic disease, as well as clinical experiences which delegates have encountered during the workshop.

    Hahnemann championed “medicine of experience” as against that of ‘opinions’.
    Focus is on authentic, integrated experiences. This permits proper conceptualization and evolves reason.

    8. Acute Prescribing:
    Hahnemann’s classification of disease provides us valuable insights to perceive intristic nature of the disease.

    Acute and chronic diseases are two phases of the continuous spectrum of the impaired state of susceptibility.
    Both are closely interrelated with each other and should not be considered in isolation.

    Practice demand precise delineation of acute disorder, its philosophical dimension and its relationship with chronic constitutional totality. This permits us efficient management of acute phase of the illness.

    vi) Relationship between ‘acute episode’ & chronic disease
    vii) Exploring acute disorder from the standpoint of susceptibility and miasm
    viii) Therapeutics of acute disorder

    9. Repertory:
    Repertory is an instrument par excellence which establishes bridge between artificial drug disease and natural disease.

    In order to use it efficiency in practice, we should grasp its philosophy, construction method and technique of utility.

    Course will explore application of various repertories in practice.

    Focus will be scientific and correct use of the Repertory.


    Holistic approach will demand to total care of all the aspects of the case; its exciting as well as maintaining causes. For this wherever necessary, Psychotherapy, physiotherapy, ancillary measures, diet & regimen instructions are quite important.

    11.Orientation to advanced projects & research methodology:
    This module will give an orientation to the learner about case conceptualization.
    Physician utilizes his knowledges / experiences for the various clinical action he releases. His capacity to abstract, integrate and logically correlate from various dimensions of the clinical situations. Through analysis of clinical experiences of case management, sharing them in the group and evaluation from seniors help this process.
    Since foundation has evolved multidisciplinary holistic superspeciality projects in various fields viz. developmental disability, mental health, thyroid, tuberculosis, psoriasis, HIV/AIDS etc. it is possible to provide forum for advance learning. Student’s exposure in this area helps to develop this faculty and orients him well towards case conceptualization. This helps to cultivate aptitude towards research. Fellowship would enhance this gain.


    Spandan Holistic Child Care Centre has been working through holistic multidisciplinary approach in the field of child care. Quality research is an integral component of the functioning of the institute. Cases are treated exclusively by homoeopathy, but through standard protocol and evaluated through competent experts like clinical psychologist, neurologist, special educators etc.

    300 cases of Autism, ADHD, & learning disorders etc. have been homeopathically managed over last 7 years. Several scientific papers have been presented in national and international seminars.

    Students will witness actual case management. They will get opportunity to interact with all experts managing these cases. There will be video presentation of various documental cases with extensive follow up. Case concepts which allowed successful management of these cases would be discussed in details by Dr. Barvalia.
